BEC welcomes appointment of Minister 

BEC has welcomed the appointment of Dr Megan Woods to the role of Minister for Energy & Resources. The Prime Minister announced the full line up of ministers last week.  "BEC has worked closely with the Minister since she took the role in 2018," noted Tina Schirr, BEC Executive Director. "The sector requires strong engagement and understanding of the challenges and opportunities going forward."

Immigration and border issues survey open

The challenges of border closure and immigration are having a significant impact on the economy. BusinessNZ is seeking your feedback on the impacts of border closure, the border exemption process and criteria and immigration settings on local businesses. The survey findings will be used to inform ongoing work to implement a risk mitigation and management approach. Read more...

Toitū  has launched software to help small New Zealand enterprises understand and share their carbon footprint. Small and medium organisations make up 28% of NZ's economy. A good way to begin the transition to a low carbon economy is to understand your current carbon footprint. Toitū carbon assess makes the science accessible. Likeliest future shipping fuels ammonia, methanol

A new study by DNV Global shows ammonia and methanol as appearing to be the two dominant future fuel choices for deep sea shipping. The study assessed a dozen different fuel types in 30 different hypothetical market and regulatory scenarios. Both products are liquid fuels which are already widely carried as cargoes, making them relatively suitable to retrofit.

NZX-EEX appointed for NZU Auctions

NZX-EEX has recently been appointed by the Ministry for the Environment to implement and operate NZU Auctions on behalf of the Government. Auctions are a single round, sealed bid, uniform price format and are open to all NZ ETS registry account holders. The first auction is scheduled for 17 March 2021, with simulated auctions occurring in early 2021. Read more...

Wellington Electricity consult on EV connect

Wellington Electricity is developing a roadmap articulating next steps to support EV uptake. The EV Connect project is a collaboration with other players in the electricity supply chain and works on offering customers the option to have their EV chargers dynamically controlled. A workshop held last month explored the international experience before focusing on the NZ context, discussing the role of networks and others, and appropriate standards and market structures.  Read more...

Which is why it has released its first Environmental Product Declaration. This is the 10th addition to Fletcher Building's growing collection of declarations. Firstgas Hydrogen Pipeline Trial is now listed on the new HyResource Platform. HyResource is a single source of information for Australian and New Zealand hydrogen related demonstrations, projects, policies and organisations. Having the project listed in the hydrogen resource hub is a great step towards increasing awareness of the project and paving the way for further international collaboration. Read more...
