Russia's recent actions have thrown a spotlight on energy security. Economic and social wellbeing is critically dependent on access to fuels which is why MBIE recently consulted on options to increase engine fuel security in the event of disruption. The New Zealand Geothermal Association has launched a new Geoheat Action Plan focusing on the direct use of geothermal heat for industrial and commercial scale projects. Geothermal energy could play a critical role in our transition to a low-emissions Aotearoa. The Energy Innovation Fund Navigator is designed to assist innovators to identify funds or finance opportunities that may apply to their innovation, aimed ultimately to accelerate the demonstration and commercialisation of their energy innovation. Where do our engine fuels come from?
|
Most of our refined fuel comes from Asia - Singapore, Japan and Korea.
Assuming storage tanks are half full, we have around 400 million litres in tanks across New Zealand - that's equivalent to around 17 days cover.
This short white paper from Z Energy gives a good overview of fuel supply and how it will change as Marsden Point stops importing and refining crude oil.

Low emissions transport projects funded
|
Congratulations to our members ThunderGrid, Meridian, Z Energy and Fonterra who secured funding through the Government's latest Low Emissions Transport Fund (LETF) round. The Government expanded the scope of the latest funding round to increase its impact across the transport sector. Successful projects cover a wide range of applications, including some hard-to-abate areas. Read more...

Genesis completes executive refresh

Genesis Energy has completed a refresh of its executive team with two further internal promotions - Rebecca Larking has been appointed Chief Operations Officer, and Pauline Martin has been appointed Chief Trading Officer. Shortlist for Southland green hydrogen project

Four potential development partners have been shortlisted for the Southern Green Hydrogen project, a joint venture between Meridian Energy and Contact Energy to develop the world's first large-scale green hydrogen plant in Southland. Information disclosure for gas production, storage
|
Last month the Gas Industry Company proposed new gas governance rules for the disclosure of gas production and storage facility outage information. The new rules, which incorporated feedback from stakeholders, will provide for disclosure of planned and unplanned outages of gas production and gas storage facilities over a threshold, and for monitoring and compliance with these disclosure obligations.
